Midlothian Sure Start is a partner in the Midlothian Parenting Strategy. The Parenting
and Family Support Lead post is seconded to Midlothian Council to co-ordinate the
Parenting and Family Support Strategy.
One of the main aims of the strategy is to increase parenting capacity. Staff, parent
volunteers & parents/carers from Community Learning & Development, Children & Families,
Health, Children 1st, Midlothian Sure Start & Parents Voice have been trained to
deliver the following parenting courses:

Raising Children with Confidence
“The Incredible Years is a research-based effective programme
for parents and carers of children aged 2- 10 years”
Why? The incredible years groups could help you to:
Manage your child’s behaviour in a positive way
Learn to understand your child better
Help build your and your child’s confidence
Share ideas and experiences with other parents
Where? In various venues and locations across Midlothian
Who? The course will be delivered by trained staff from Education, CAMHS,
Integrated Children’s Service & Midlothian Sure Start.

Is a short and accessible parenting programme for parents of young people in early
Examines the changing relationships between parents and their children as they make
the transition to secondary school.
The programme encourages parents to consider the new challenges
their children will face as they move towards greater independence,
and is ideal for running in schools and community settings.
The course runs for 4 sessions with each session lasting 2 hrs.
