Our Play Room
In our playroom the children have the opportunity to experience various activities
based on their interests. This is some of the topics the children have shown an interest
fire engines, dressing up, story telling, building, cooking, trains, puppets, people,
messy play, art and craft, at the water we have had everything from Incy Wincy Spider
to boats and divers,
with the playdough we have made everything from pancakes to snowmen.
Every day is a new experience!
Family Reachout is for families and carers with children predominantly under 3 years
old who are looking for extra help and support, to meet in a friendly, non-judgemental
environment. There are various groups including mums, dads, grandparents, Polish
families, ante-natal and pre-natal, teenage groups. We offer a wide variety of services
including parenting, counselling, baby massage, play at home, play therapy, support
In the playroom we follow the Pre-Birth to 3 document.
We offer a bright, safe and stimulating playroom for the children where they will
be encouraged to reach their full potential with the help of their parent/carer and
trained staff. The parents/carers are encouraged to join in our Stay and Play sessions
with the children giving them new experiences in their lives, i.e. painting, gluing,
story telling, singing, hand puppets and mixing with others. We are always open to
new ideas and sharing new experiences with our very young children and are very community-aware,
using local knowledge to expand the young child's opportunities and experiences.
We offer weekly support where our registered families have time out to "chill out"
and also to discuss, in a confidential setting, issues they may be finding it difficult
to cope with in their every day lives. The parents have benefited from doing group/individual
sessions on issues which are relevant. The families are involved in making up the
centre’s programme through Plan and Partnership Meetings. The programme is reviewed
4 times a year. The centre also provides counselling and some play therapy. Skills
for modern living are explored periodically, within our groups, such as first aid,
confident parenting courses, literacy and numeracy skills, Hands-on, practical art
and craft type activities are routinely explored and are fun!
We aim to have regular family trips outwith the Centre such as soft play, Safari
Park, local play parks etc. We have other Family Days which are always enjoyed by
all those who participate. The building itself is warm, friendly and relaxing and
we have recently re-organised the rooms to maximise the buildings potential and use.
We are a project-user led service: You tell us what you would like to see happening
in your Centre and, together, we will try our hardest to make it happen!
